A Typical Day at AEON
Here is a possible schedule for an AEON teacher starting at 1:00pm.

11:45A.M. The School's office hours usually starts at noon. Teachers and staff arrive at the school fifteen minutes prior to their scheduled starting time. In Japan, being "on time" for work means arriving early so as to be ready for the start of the workday.

11:45A.M. There is a 5-Minute Meeting everyday, which gives the manager an opportunity to go over the previous day's business results and the current day's schedule with the teachers and staff working that day. Teachers teach an average of five to seven classes a day.

12:00P.M. Teachers may have one or two early afternoon classes followed by a break before their other classes.
Children's classes are often scheduled in the early afternoon, with adult classes in the later afternoon and evening.

4:00P.M. At the weekly business meetings, teaching and managerial concerns are discussed. Examples of meeting topics are student progress, teaching techniques, supplementary study programs, enrollment campaigns, and branch business targets and results. Teachers share their ideas on how to teach more effectively, how to talk to students who are having difficulties in class, or how to conduct more successful interviews and counselling sessions. There are other opportunities for teachers to expand their knowledge, such as through attendance at branch or area teachers' meetings, workshops or professional development sessions.

One-on-one counselling sessions with students are often held to discuss progress and difficulties the students are experiencing with their English studies. Teachers help students make decisions regarding the next course in which they will enroll and recommend study-at-home materials for additional English practice. For students who desire to live or study abroad, the advice of the teachers can benefit them greatly.

5:00P.M. to 9:00P.M. In the evening, it's common to teach classes from 5:00PM until 9:00PM. Classes can be from 40 to 60 minutes, with the majority of classes being 50 minutes in length. Often in the late afternoon and evening, prospective students visit the schools.

Interviewing prospective students is an enjoyable and important part of the teacher's job. It is always interesting to meet new people and learn what motivates a prospective student to study English. It is also important for the teacher to make a positive, friendly and professional first impression and teach the prospective student some useful English.

9:00P.M. The school day ends at 9:00PM. Teachers have a wide variety of options to choose from to fill their time outside of work.

Socializing with students and co-workers provides a great opportunity to exchange cultural information, whether at a karaoke box, restaurant or izakaya, a Japanese-style bar.
